Difference between IoT and CPS

The goal of the Internet of Things (IoT) is to link things(Objects and machines) to the Internet and eventually one another, whereas cyber-physical systems(CPS) integrate physical processes, networking, and computation. Let us discuss some more differences between IoT and CPS with the help of the comparison given below.

What is IoT?

The term Internet of Things (IoT) describes a network of actual physical objects that can collect and share electronic data. A wide range of smart devices is included in the Internet of Things, from industrial machinery that transmits data about the manufacturing process to sensors that monitor data about the human body.

What is CPS?

In Cyber-Physical Systems(CPS), computational and physical components are interested in a networked fashion to produce functionalities and distinguishing characteristics. Through the development of processes, networking and technology, CPS technology aims to enable the seamless fusion of cyber and physical systems.

Difference between IoT and CPS

  • Internet(Connectivity) + Things(IoT devices) = IoT(Internet of Things), Cyber + Physics(Physical device(world) = CPS(Cyber-Physical system).
  • The goal of IoT is to build a network of connected devices for data collection and exchange. While the CPS system seamlessly controls the physical process by being connected to the motor.
  • IoT contains all physical devices primarily created terms that are connected to the controls sensors internet. While CPS is the networked, interconnected integration of physics and cyber components.
  • IoT devices are primarily created compared to interact with data-centric, in contrast, CPS devices are designed to interact with physical processes and control them.
  • IoT devices are more complex than CPS systems, which are more straightforward than IoT systems.
  • IoT is pure automation it does not need any external things, but CPS is using sensors and actuators to work in the feedback loop.
  • IoT doesn't need any human assistance, whereas CPS needs human intervention and human-to-computer intervention.
  • Example of IoT is electronic vehicles, and home appliances, while an example of CPS are smartphones, industrial control systems, and wearable devices.
